Things to know about different types of homes.

With so many different options available, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the options, so you can make the best decision. Take a look below at the descriptions of eldercare options available to you.

Retirement Communities
Retirement Communities provide considerable versatility and freedom, but are reserved for residents who are healthy and self-sufficient. Typically, these communities provide access to a variety of social, cultural and fitness activities. Residents live in private apartments and can enjoy fine dining food services.  These are also know as Independent communities, Congregate Care, or Independent living.

  • Prices range from $1400-3000
  • Mostly private pay but some will take government funds through section 202

Assisted Living
Assisted Living provides a community setting for seniors who can no longer live at home on their own, but don't need 24-hour, complex medical supervision. Residents typically need daily help with activities such as bathing, dressing and medical reminders. These facilities are also known as assisted care communities.

  • Prices range from $2000-$4500 per month 
  • Some take Medicaid but mostly private pay

Nursing Home
Nursing Homes are designed for seniors who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. Residents may have physical disabilities that require round the clock care from skilled professionals. Some nursing homes offer rehabilitative services for those recovering from an injury or illness. These facilities are sometimes known as convalescent care or Long term facilities.

  • Prices range from $2800-$7000
  • Some take Medicare, Medicaid, and Private Pay

Personal Care Homes
Personal Care Homes consist of residences in need of shelter, meals, supervision and assistance for personal care tasks usually related to physical, behavioral health, or cognitive disabilities.  These facilities are sometimes known as group homes, adult foster care, boarding and care homes

  • Prices range from $1200-$3500 depending on care provide
  • Some take Medicaid depending on services rendered as well as private pay

Respite Care
Respite Care is a place for residents to have a short-term stay in a community that can meet their needs. The purpose of this type of care is to provide a break for caregivers. Stays can range from a week to a month, depending on the needs, and the residents are provided with the full care they need. This scenario can also work as a transitional option.

  • Prices range from $75-$150 Per Day
  • Some take private pay and Medicaid
